Screens – When It’s Time to Replace

By the very nature of the job they do, screening in aggregate plants take a lot of wear and tear every day. They are constantly exposed to abrasion from the aggregates they are screening, and most of the time, they’re exposed to outdoor elements as well. Because of this, it’s important to watch your screen carefully to make sure that it’s still giving you optimal performance.

Of course, there are several issues that can arise if your screening material is worn or damaged. One of the main concerns is aggregate sizing. The purpose of the screen is to filter aggregates of a certain dimension, so that your product is uniform. When a screen is worn, the openings may allow aggregates of the wrong size to slip through, and cause your product to be of inferior quality.

Another concern is slowed production. Binding and pegging is more likely to occur in screens that are suffering from wear and tear, which means you’ll need to halt production and clear the screen in order to proceed. And, the more you need to do that, the more downtime you have… and the more money you lose.

Samscreen recommends that you visually inspect your screens frequently to ensure that they are still performing at a level that helps you maintain consistent production and eliminate downtime. By inspecting your screens for obvious signs of wear and tear, you’ll be able to get replacement screens ordered so that the only downtime you experience will be the short time required for screen replacement.

Nobody wants to be in a situation in which the screen has completely failed. In this scenario, you’ll not only be forced into bringing your operation to a screeching halt, but you’ll also have to deal with ordering a replacement, waiting for it to ship, and then taking the time to install it once it arrives. By noticing that your screen will soon need replacing in advance, you can take care of ordering and have the screen on hand when the time arrives to replace.
