Trommels screen material by continuously spinning a drum that tumbles to break up material. Trommels are often tube shaped, lined with paddles and bars running inside the length of the tube, and are designed to catch and lift debris. Gravity forces the tumbling debris to fall back down, causing the material to break up, and eventually become small enough to pass through the screen, while larger debris exits through the opposite end of the trommel drum.
