HTD Custom Crushing: A “Crushing” Experience

HTD Custom Crushing of Ontario, Canada were experiencing exaggerated wear on their Pegson 1100X650 Premiertrac Jaw Crusher. Not only was the wear profile not satisfactory, but they were “belching” rock in the jaw even though they were feeding it correctly and keeping the crushing chamber full of rock.

One of Samscreen’s valued-added distributors contacted Samscreen’s engineering department and posed the question of why this problem was occurring and if it was possible to fix it with a Samscreen Maxwear™ jaw. Critical data was collected, including the max rock size being fed, desired end product, current closed side settings, production rates desired and characteristics of the rock being crushed.

Samscreen’s engineers went to work and developed a completely new jaw profile and geometry for this application, moving the customer into a “bellied jaw” with deep profiles with a flat face. It was explained to the customer that it was beneficial to move the “nip” angle up the crushing chamber and that using a fully curved or bellied jaw would allow discharge material to exit more readily and reduced the amount of fines that were causing the exaggerated wear.

HTD was given a CAD (computer aided drawing) of the planned profile and geometry so they could see what was being proposed before they committed to the purchase.

Upon receipt of their custom jaws, HTD found that the high quality of the tier 1 Samscreen foundry that poured their jaws meant that the fit was perfect and matched the jaw stock beautifully because of the finish machining they received prior to shipping. Upon use, they found that the solution that Samscreen engineered meant that they no longer had the belching problems, through put increased significantly and the discard ratio of their manganese went down, all of which saved them time and money.
